Ghasabeh Qanat of Gonabad is one of the best tourist attractions of the city in terms of location and background and attracts many tourists every year. The landmark of this Qanat (Aqueduct) is in Naser Khosrow Street in Gonabad. Ghasabeh Qanat is the greatest and oldest qanat in the world which dates back to 2500 or 2700 years ago and is the only suggested monument by the Great Khorasan to UNESCO to be registered. Gonabad is located in the south of Razavi Khorasan.
Ghasabeh Qanat of Gonabad was registered in the list of Iran’s national monuments with registration number 2963 in 1379 by Cultural Heritage Organization.
Throughout the arid regions of Iran, agricultural and permanent settlements are supported by the ancient qanat system of tapping alluvial aquifers at the heads of valleys and conducting the water along underground tunnels by gravity, often over many kilometres. The Persian Qanat recorded in UNESCO World Heritage in 2016.
