In the thirteenth century (eighth century Hijri) one of the grandest scientific and educational complexes was built in Tabriz, According to the historical evidences, cmpared to other prestigious universities in Europe, it was a leading pioneer.

“Rab’-e Rashidi” has been erected by Khajeh Rashid-al-din Fazl-o-allah Hamadani, minister of Ghazan khan and one of the scientists and significant writers of that era in northeast of Tabriz. By attracting scientists, excellent doctors and professional masters and skillful artists from different parts of country, this center has converted into a scientific and academic international complex. 
Clavijo, a Spain tourist, in his logbook reminded Rab’-e Rashidi as the biggest and greatest monument of his time.
