Most of the events recorded by historians about Qahqaheh Castle are related to Safavid era. However, it does not mean that this castle has been built in that period. In fact, archeological research indicates that deployment in the castle goes back to pre-Islamic period. Qahqaheh Castle, which had high importance in Babak Khorramdin and Safavid periods, was utilized as the royal treasury and the most important jail of the kingdom for years; the castle was the place of exile for political criminals.
