Heris is one of the counties of East Azerbaijan province which is formed of the two Central and Khajeh districts. The center of this county is Heris city.
Heris county neighbors the Sarab and Meshginshahr counties from the east, Tabriz from the west, Ahar and Varzaqan counties from north, and Bostanabad county from south.
Of the interesting places of this province, the Okuz Daghi mineral water, Emamzadeh Abu Eshaq, Harzeh Varz canyon, Qaleh Buri square, Suqalkhan spring, Minaq graveyard, Param dam, Arbatan dam and Rus Qalasi (Russian castle) can be mentioned. Also, the combined cycle power plant of Heris is of the energy sources of the region. Highest quality and the most famous woolen carpets of Azerbaijan are woven in Heris county. Its altitude from sea level is between 1800 to 1850 meters and because of that it is known as the roof of Azerbaijan.
