East Azerbaijan province is the biggest and most populous province in the northwestern region of Iran. East Azerbaijan province has borders with the republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia from north, to its west and southwest is the West Azerbaijan province, it neighbors the Ardabil province from the east and ends at the Zanjan province from southeast. This province has cold mountainous climate and all of its territory is made up of mountains and highlands. The area of East Azerbaijan province is 45491 square meters which makes it the eleventh biggest province of Iran. This province is the meeting point for the two major mountain ranges of Alborz and Zagros, and its highest point is the peak of Sahand mountain. The center of East Azerbaijan province is Tabriz city. Marand, Maragheh and Mianeh are other important cities of this province. East Azerbaijan has the first place of non-oil exports in the country. Also this province is considered to be the safest province (with the lowest criminal cases) in the country.
