Because of its historical background and formation of ancient civilizations like Mannaeans, Uratrians, Medians, and Assyrians, Maku County contains several ancient historical areas each of which have a high capacity for tourism industry development.
The remains of Maku Castle can be seen in the highest point of Maku County under a high umbrella rock. The time of the castle destruction is not known; most probably its initial building belongs to pre-Islam period to which some battlements were added later.
Qoban Castle inscription, which goes back to Safavid era, is registered in the list of Iran's National Heritage.
